What is Homebrew?
You may hear the term homebrew applied to beer that is made at home. Home brewing is becoming increasingly popular with beer aficionados everywhere because it allows for the opportunity to home brew your own specialized type of beer, just how you like it. While brewing beer at home may sound difficult at first, there are all kinds of brewing kits that make it a breeze. They start at under $50 and go up in price from there. If you are brand new to making home brew then a beginner kit is ideal for you as they are affordable and easy to use.
There are many places where you can purchase home brewing kits. They are available in a variety of brick and mortar stores as well as online. Some brands include Homebrew Heaven, Maestro and Mr. Beer. Let's take a look at a couple of the Mr. Beer kits, sold in stores like Target and Sears to name just two. The least expensive kit is the Deluxe at $39.95. For this low price you get a 2 gallon fermenter, an instructional book on home brewing and a 2 gallon refill. This makes a perfect gift for the beer lover in your life.
Another kit by this manufacturer for the more experienced home brewer is the Brewmaster's Kit, priced at around $99. If you order this kit online they offer free shipping, but as mentioned earlier you may be able to find a kit in one of your favorite stores. The Brewmaster's Kit comes with everything the Deluxe kit includes, as well as 2 premium refills, bottling system, a thermometer and sugar measuring device, and just for fun a cap, T-shirt and two beer glasses. This is everything you need for home brewed beer and then some. This company even sells a Root Beer Kit for those who don't drink alcohol.
Eventually you may want to try homebrew techniques without a kit. There are separate components you can buy when you get more experienced. Also there are literally hundreds of beer recipes you can experiment with. Along with the recipes found in brewing kits there are recipe books you can purchase and even recipes online. So if you are looking for a fun new hobby and you love beer, consider brewing it at home for fun and to achieve a distinctive personalized flavor.
